In any outbreak
- Separate sick birds into a spare pen or cell.
- Take 2–3 freshly dead birds to a vet for post-mortem — the fastest way to name the disease.
- Write down how many are sick and dead each day.
- Give vitamins and electrolytes to the whole flock while you wait.
- Viral diseases have no cure — antibiotics only treat the secondary infection.
- Burn or bury dead birds deep with lime.
- Suspected bird flu: report at once to Imo State Veterinary Services (Ministry of Agriculture, Owerri) or the Federal Department of Veterinary and Pest Control Services. Do not sell or move birds.
Drug strengths differ between brands — follow the label. A vet's post-mortem should confirm the disease before you spend money on drugs.
